Humorous drawing – Dessins humoristiques

©R. Bourdeix, 2021, section 06-CGH.

For illustrating this section, we could produce on request about two or three large size HD posters (up to 180x100 cm in size).

With all the humorous cartoons concerning the coconut, we could publish a complete book, and there is therefore plenty of material to produce posters for a coconut Ecomuseum. The themes vary but often concern small desert islands where a single coconut tree grows, vacationers, hammocks, falling nuts and… tax havens! Some drawings are also quite sexy and should be reserved for an adult and informed public... These posters should be adapted to each country, on a case-by-case basis.

The first contact with a coconut palm is often disconcerting: the size of the fruits, their shape, their position on the palm are not very familiar to a western mind.  An anecdote comes down to us over several centuries: in the fourteenth century, islanders offered a fresh coconut to a Portuguese explorer who had left to discover the Pacific. When he tasted coconut milk for the first time, he made the following naive comment: "What a wonderful land: here, even the cows lay eggs!". On discovering this plant, some sensitive souls of science are driven to poetry, or even to mild delirium: did not a famous botanist try to show that the coconut palm was the legendary tree of the Garden of Eden?
