Basic containers – Récipients simples

 ©R. Bourdeix, 2021, section CCSHB.

For illustrating this section, we can produce on request at least one large size HD poster (up to 180x100 cm in size). These posters should be adapted to each country, on a case-by-case basis, in order to prominently feature locally produced coconut products, and to promote the marketing of these local products. It is also possible to buy or rent items from the personal collection of Dr R. Bourdeix.

What we call here « basic containers” are coconut shells, or items made at least partially from coconut shells, the coconut shell is not artistically carved and 2) The shell is not adorned with metal such as gold, silver or bronze.

Nevertheless, some of these containers that we call “basic” have great historical, sentimental, or financial value. Like for example this This relic of the mutiny on the Bounty, a Coconut bowl belonging to Lieutenant William Bligh (1754-1817), signed and dated 'W Bligh/April 1789' (initials and date are incised). Inscription in ink: 'The cup I eat my miserable allowance out.' This coconut was sold at Christies in 2002 for about 95000 USD.
